The Anti-Collision Flap Turnstile Gate: Built to Handle Daily Crowds

2026-09-24 - Leave me a message

Every building manager knows the same unwritten rule about pedestrian entrances: the gate that looks the most elegant is not always the gate that survives the crowd. A flap turnstile gate is the standard answer for office towers, metro stations, hotels, and high-end residential buildings, because it offers a wide, comfortable passage and a clean, modern look. But a flap gate has one weak point that shows up in every busy installation — the wing. People push against it, trolleys bump into it, and luggage drags past it. On a conventional flap gate, those collisions eventually damage the motor and the wing drive, and the gate goes out of service. ZOJE built the anti-collision flap turnstile gate to remove that weak point entirely.

A flap turnstile gate opens by folding its wing into the cabinet, then closes it across the passage to block entry. The movement itself is simple, but the conditions around it are not. A commuter rushing through a metro gate in the morning is not walking carefully. A hotel guest with two suitcases is not checking the clearance. A delivery person with a hand truck is not looking at the wing at all.

On a standard flap gate, every one of those contacts is a small shock absorbed by the motor and the drive mechanism. Over weeks and months, the accumulated hits wear the gears, misalign the wing, and eventually trigger a fault that takes the lane out of service. The operator then faces the choice of a repair visit or a permanently reduced throughput. In high-traffic locations, this is not a rare event — it is a routine cost.

The ZOJE anti-collision flap turnstile gate approaches this problem from the motor itself. Instead of a standard drive that treats a blocked wing as a fault, the Y109 uses a self-developed anti-collision motor combined with a servo control system and our own motor control technology. When the wing meets resistance — a shoulder, a suitcase, a hand pushing it — the drive absorbs the contact and returns to normal operation instead of jamming or failing.

The practical result is measured in service life. A gate that can absorb collisions without damage does not develop the gradual wear that kills ordinary flap gates. It keeps opening and closing accurately through years of daily use, and it validates passages correctly because the wing position stays precise. This is the difference between a gate that is maintained on a schedule and a gate that is repaired after every incident.

The anti-collision function is not a single component — it is the combination of the mechanical structure and the motor control working together. The cabinet is built around a self-designed mechanical structure that ZOJE developed in-house, paired with a powerful motor. The two are tuned as one unit, which is why the gate runs smoothly and stably over the long term instead of drifting out of adjustment.

Protecting the gate from collisions is only half the job. The other half is protecting the pedestrians, and the flap turnstile gate carries a full set of safety functions. High-sensitivity optical sensors detect a visitor approaching the wing, and a mechanical anti-pinch function backs them up, so the gate responds to a person in the passage before the wing closes fully. Anti-clamping and anti-pinch protection are standard, and in an emergency the doors open automatically for free egress — a requirement in most building codes and a feature that building managers ask about first.

The gate also keeps traffic moving at a practical pace. Unlock takes 0.2 seconds, and the unit handles 35 people per minute through a single lane. For a morning peak in an office tower or a train arrival at a metro station, that throughput keeps the queue short while the safety systems work underneath.

At ZOJE, a flap turnstile gate is only as good as its cabinet, because the cabinet carries the drive, the sensors, and the wings through years of service. The Y109 is built from 304 stainless steel as standard, with 316 available for coastal and industrial sites where corrosion resistance matters. The design is waterproof and dust-proof, rated IP67, which is why the same gate works indoors in an office lobby and outdoors at a building entrance exposed to weather.

The passage is 550 millimeters wide as standard — comfortable for most pedestrians — and can be customized to 900 millimeters or wider for wheelchair users and baby carriages. The wing itself is acrylic as standard, with tempered glass or a red soft-shell option available for projects that need a different look or a gentler contact surface. The cabinet measures 1400 by 300 by 1000 millimeters, a slim footprint that fits into lobbies without dominating them.

The gate connects to whatever identification system the building already uses. The unified external electrical interface accepts ID cards, IC cards, EM cards, fingerprint scanners, face recognition terminals, QR code readers, and ESD systems, and the unit communicates over RS485 or TCP/IP with a central management platform. Direction can be single or bidirectional, and each cabinet can be configured as part of a multi-lane array so a building can scale the entrance as traffic grows.

This integration is the reason the ZOJE flap turnstile gate shows up in so many different environments. We have shipped these units to ports, clubs, metro stations, hotels, intelligent buildings, and high-end residential communities. In a recent office project, the gates were installed in a row at the lobby entrance with face recognition terminals on top, matching the building's interior design while controlling access to the floors behind. On another site, the same units were installed outdoors at a residential community entrance, running in open air from day one.

Every flap turnstile gate that leaves the ZOJE factory goes through a continuous run test before it ships, and the product carries a two-year warranty. We keep spare parts in stock for units that are years out of warranty, which matters for operators who run their gates every day and cannot afford a lane sitting idle.

Customization is available in every aspect of the gate. The channel width, wing material, cabinet finish, indicator colors, and access control integration can all be adjusted for a specific project, and we accept OEM and ODM orders. If a building needs a gate that matches its architectural style or a metro station needs a configuration that fits its platform layout, we can produce it.

If you are planning a pedestrian entrance for a building, a station, or a community, the anti-collision flap turnstile gate is worth a serious look. It brings the clean look and wide passage of a flap gate without the collision damage that usually shortens its life, and it keeps pedestrians safe while it works. ZOJE's sales team can help you work out the right configuration for your site, and we can arrange a sample unit for evaluation before you commit to a larger order.
