At ZOJE, we have spent the past several months refining a product line that our customers have been asking about for a long time. The idea came up during a routine review of warranty claims last year, when our service team noticed that rust at weld seams was the single most common complaint from outdoor installations. We went back to the workshop and started asking a simple question: what if we just removed the welds altogether? This month, we are putting a new batch of these units into production, and we want to share what makes this generation different from anything we have built before.
The full height turnstile has always been one of our core products. Facilities that need a real perimeter barrier — factories, data centers, construction sites, prisons, stadiums, and logistics hubs — rely on this type of gate because a standard waist-high turnstile simply cannot stop someone from climbing over. A full height turnstile, by contrast, extends from floor to ceiling and forces every person to pass through a controlled rotating chamber. There is no way around it, over it, or under it.
Over the years, our customers told us two things repeatedly. First, the welded seams on traditional full height turnstile cabinets are a weak point — they collect moisture, they rust, and they make the whole unit look rough after a few years outdoors. Second, the surface finish on most stainless steel turnstiles scratches easily and loses its shine under sun and rain.
We took both complaints seriously. The result is this new batch, built around two changes: an electroplating process across the entire body, and a weld-free structural design.
Electroplating is not new in itself, but applying it consistently to a unit of this size is harder than it sounds. Every bar, every panel, and every corner of the rotating mechanism has to be treated evenly, or the finish will peel at the edges.
Our engineering team adjusted the plating bath parameters and the pre-treatment cleaning cycle over a dozen test runs before the coating adhered uniformly across the whole unit. We threw out the first three batches entirely — the finish was good on the flat panels but streaky where the bars met the frame. The benefit for the end user is straightforward once you get it right. The electroplated layer creates a barrier between the 304 stainless steel substrate and the outside environment. Salt spray, humidity, and daily temperature swings have a much harder time reaching the metal underneath. For customers installing one of these gates near a coastline or in an industrial area with corrosive dust, this matters a great deal.
The finish also looks cleaner. The surface has a consistent, even tone rather than the patchy appearance you sometimes get from brushed stainless steel that has been welded and polished by hand. For a full height turnstile that sits in a public lobby or a visible perimeter gate, that visual consistency matters.
The second change is structural. On a conventional full height turnstile, the cabinet frame is assembled by welding steel tubes together. Welding is fast and cheap, but it creates problems. Every weld point is a stress concentration. If the unit is shipped disassembled and welded on site, the quality depends entirely on the welder that day. If it is welded at the factory, the heat from welding warps the metal slightly, which means the doors may not align perfectly after a few months of heavy use.
Our new design eliminates weld points entirely. The frame is joined with precision-machined mechanical connections and bolted assemblies. Each joint is cut to tolerance on CNC equipment before assembly, so the parts fit the way they are supposed to fit. There is no heat-affected zone, no weld splatter, and no need for grinding and polishing after the fact. Our production manager likes to say that if you cannot see the joint, you do not have to worry about it failing.
What does this mean for someone buying one of these gates? It means the unit arrives square and stays square. The rotating arms run smoothly because the frame does not twist. And because there are no weld seams to trap water, rust has fewer places to start. For outdoor installations, that difference shows up after two or three years, when a welded unit is starting to show brown streaks at the joints and ours is not.
We want to be clear about one thing. We changed the manufacturing process, not the product's core behavior. This is still the ZOJE-Z2004 90-degree full height turnstile that many of our customers already know.
It still uses 304 stainless steel as the standard material, with 316 stainless steel available for projects that need extra corrosion resistance. It still comes in single-channel and dual-channel configurations, so a site with high foot traffic can run two lanes through one shared frame instead of installing two separate units side by side. The dual-channel layout saves roughly a third of the floor space compared with two standalone gates.
The drive system is still offered in two versions. The semi-automatic version uses a solenoid lock and is the right choice for sites where throughput is moderate and budget is a concern. The fully automatic version uses a brush, brushless, or servo motor and runs more quietly, more smoothly, and with a longer service life. Both versions support single-direction and bidirectional flow.
Anti-tailgating remains a core function. The 90-degree rotation means only one person can fit in the chamber at a time, and the mechanism resets after each pass. If someone tries to follow immediately behind an authorized user, the arms lock before the second person can get through. For facilities that need unattended operation, this is the feature that makes this type of gate worth installing instead of a cheaper half-height option.
The unit still integrates with whatever access control system a customer already uses. RFID card readers, fingerprint scanners, face recognition cameras, QR code readers, and ESD testing systems can all connect through the standard dry-contact or relay input interface. Communication runs over RS485 or TCP/IP, so the gate can talk to a central security management platform. In an emergency, the arms release automatically and the channel opens for free egress — a requirement in most building codes and one we have never compromised on.
If you are specifying a full height turnstile for a new project, this generation is worth a look. It is particularly well suited to outdoor installations where weather resistance matters — perimeter fences at factories, worker entrances at construction sites, loading docks at warehouses, and entry gates at solar farms and substations. It is also a good fit for indoor environments where appearance is important, such as the lobby of a corporate headquarters or a government building, because the electroplated finish looks cleaner than a welded and brushed alternative.
