Operating Principle and Functional Characteristics of Ultrasonic Parking Guidance Systems

2025-12-29

Ultrasonic parking guidance systems(PGS) are primarily suitable for medium and large underground parking facilities and are widely used in public parking areas such as train stations and large shopping centers. Their operating principle is based on ultrasonic detectors that emit ultrasonic waves from top to bottom, detecting the waves reflected off the ceiling and floor of the vehicle. This accurately detects whether a vehicle is in each parking space. Information about the parking status of each space is transmitted to a control computer via network lines. The computer processes the information using software and sends guidance signals to the indicators. These guide drivers to quickly find available parking spaces.

Ultrasonic parking guidance systems(PGS) can effectively improve the utilization rate of parking spaces, allowing operators to manage them better and reduce operating costs. For users, it makes parking easier, saves time, improves efficiency, and increases overall user satisfaction.

1. Composition and Operating Principle of Parking Guidance Systems

Parking guidance systems consist of four basic components: a data acquisition system, a data transmission system, an information system, and a central control system. The data acquisition system collects information about each parking space from the data acquisition system and transmits it to the parking guidance control system via a data transmission network, following specific rules. The central control system analyzes and processes the information before storing it on a database server and simultaneously sending it to an information publishing system to provide information services. The system provides a data query interface for the parking space information on the database server. The ultrasonic parking guidance system(PGS) installs an ultrasonic detector above each parking space, which emits ultrasonic waves downwards. The microprocessor analyzes the ultrasonic waves reflected from the ground or the top of the vehicle to determine if a vehicle is present; a red light indicates a vehicle is present, while a green light indicates no vehicle is present.

2. Parking Guidance System(PGS) Features:

a) Guidance Function: The LED screen at the parking entrance displays the number of available spaces in real time. Upon entering, the interior signs and indicator lights quickly guide the vehicle to an available space, enabling automatic guidance.

b) Protection of Reserved Parking Spaces: Regularly reserved parking spaces, monthly guaranteed parking spaces, and other dedicated parking spaces are reserved to prevent other vehicles from entering.

c) Real-Time Parking Space Status Display: Comprehensive and accurate monitoring of parking space usage provides real-time supervision and management to guide parking to optimal location.

d) Dynamic Real-Time Display of Parking Space Occupancy: Detects the use of each space, allowing parking managers to have a complete overview of the entire parking facility.

e) Statistical Function: Calculates daily and monthly usage rates, as well as hourly usage rates, guiding parking management and improving the overall image of the property management team.

f) Parking Time Detection: The timer starts after a vehicle parks, and the parking time for each vehicle can be viewed at any time in the management system.

g) System Self-Check: The vehicle guidance system performs periodic self-checks and issues automatic alarms in case of malfunction, facilitating timely maintenance.

h) Access Control and Time-Based Payment: The barrier system is compatible with IC cards, ID cards, and license plate recognition(LPR), offering multiple payment methods.
