Boom Barrier: The "Gatekeepers" of Smart Mobility

2025-08-19

In modern cities, parking lots have become indispensable infrastructure. Boom barriers, as the "first line of defense," shoulder the crucial responsibilities of vehicle access management, safety protection, and intelligent operations. With the development of smart cities and boom barrier systems have evolved from traditional mechanical equipment to highly intelligent management tools, widely used in various locations such as shopping malls, residential communities, airports, and industrial parks.

Boom barrier, also known as a vehicle blocker or barrier gate, is a mechanical device used to control vehicle traffic. It typically consists of a motor, an acceleration mechanism, a balancing device, a gate bar, and a control system. Its core function is to release or intercept vehicles by raising and lowering the gate bar.

Basic Structure of a Barrier Gate

l Gate bar: Common types include straight bars, fence bars, folding bars, and telescopic bars. They typically range in length from 3 to 6 meters and are typically made of aluminum alloy and high-strength composite materials, ensuring lightness and durability.

l Motor and Drive System: Drives the gate bar up and down. Modern barriers often use brushless DC motors for smooth operation and low noise.

l Control Box: Contains a motherboard, power module, and communication module, responsible for receiving commands and controlling the gate bar's movement.

l Sensors and Safety Devices: These devices, such as ground sensors, infrared anti-smash sensors, and pressure wave sensors, ensure vehicle and pedestrian safety.

Early boom barriers merely had simple raising and lowering functions, but modern intelligent barriers integrate multiple advanced technologies, becoming a key component of smart parking systems. License Plate Recognition Technology: Utilizing high-definition cameras and AI algorithms, license plates are automatically identified, enabling contactless payment and automatic toll deduction, significantly improving traffic efficiency.

l Multiple Payment Methods: Supports QR code payment, contactless payment, membership cards, online payment, and prepayment via an app, reducing the time spent waiting in line to pay.

Anti-Smashing Technology:

l Ground Sensor Coil: Detects whether a vehicle is under the barrier, preventing accidental smashing.

l Infrared Beam: If the barrier encounters an obstacle while descending, it will immediately stop or rise.

l Pressure Wave: If the barrier strikes an object, it will automatically rebound, ensuring safety.

ZOJE-PB200 Electromechanical Boom Barriers Gates is an entrance and exit management equipment specially used to restrict motor vehicles on the road. It is now widely used in parking lot systems and highway toll stations to manage vehicle channels and to manage vehicle entry and exit. It is divided into straight arm, fence arm, telescopic arm and fold arm(90 degrees or 180 degrees). The appropriate arm type can be selected according to different scenarios. ZOJE-PB200 works well with infrared photocells, loop detectors, card readers, ticket dispensers, manual switch (wire control), and traffic light.

With the continuous innovation and upgrading of technology, the barrier system will play a more critical role in the field of smart travel, creating a more boundless, efficient and safe travel environment for people, and becoming an indispensable part of smart life.
